As part of a significant redevelopment project, TORMAX was contracted by MK Contracts Ltd to install an impressive four-wing automatic revolving door to the main entrance of Harlow’s Princess Alexandra Hospital.   With an internal diameter of over 6m, this prestigious entrance system delivers clear and unhindered access for all patients, staff and visitors, even at the busiest times of the day. Additional access is offered via a set of swing doors situated to one sist Centuaryde, powered by a pair of advanced TORMAX iMotion 1201 operators.

“The transformed entranceway is certainly fit for the 21st century,” comments Pasqualino Risi, Associate Director of Estates and Facilities at the Princess Alexandra. “Not only does it meet all current disability discrimination requirements but also significantly enhances the patient experience on entering the hospital environment.”

The TORMAX Classic Large revolving door frame, that was installed at the Princess Alexandra hospital, features a strong central pillar constructed from steel for longevity and is suitable for door diameters from 3.6m up to an imposing 7.4m. For safety and rapid evacuation, the revolving door has an integral break-out system, allowing the leaves to be swung out of the way in an emergency.

Delivering continuous, reliability even under the highest levels of pedestrian traffic, a TORMAX TRP door drive powers the weighty four-leaf door. With a built-in height of just 145mm, the TRP operator can be neatly concealed in the floor or within the canopy of a revolving door. An advanced control system automatically captures

system-specific data, ensuring efficient and safe operation whilst minimising heat loss from the hospital.

The upgrade main entrance is part of a £1m regeneration project at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Work also includes a new emergency department, a complete revamp of outpatients and other waiting areas, as well as a restructure of ward configuration to improve health care provision through more efficient use of space.
