De Vere Tortworth Court in Wotton Under Edge has completed a £5m refurbishment. The Grade II-listed Victorian property was previously owned by Four Pillars Hotels and was bought by Starwood Capital Group in 2014.
Surrounded by the rolling hills of the Gloucestershire countryside and the famous arboretum and formal gardens of the gothic style mansion, De Vere Tortworth Court opened its doors on Thursday 15th June to treat guests to a glimpse of the newly refurbished grandeur, blending modern comfort with the hotel’s engaging history. Set within a 30-acre estate, De Vere Tortworth Court was designed by gothic revival architect Samuel Sanders Teulon in the 1850s.
With 201 rooms, all of the bedrooms have been refurbished to reflect modern British heritage using accents of leather, tweed and linen along with the creation of 11 new bedrooms and suites, bringing the total number of bedrooms in the main house to 55. The remaining guest suites are situated in the Coutyard wing.
Much of the renovation work has been has been in the mansion house, where the space previously used for meeting rooms has been transformed into 11 suites, The De Vere Tortworth Court also boasts 10 meeting rooms, a new gym and refurbished Spa and indoor pool.
The Mansion House church has been converted in a restaurant which will It will serve a locally-sourced, British menu. The library now houses a whiskey bar, complementing a summer pop-up outdoor bar serving Pimms.

The new-look hotel is one that I am very proud to welcome guests into and the introduction of large suites allows guests to indulge and live some of the grandeur that the original Earls would have enjoyed.”
Tortworth Court is one of 24 hotels within the De Vere portfolio, the sister brand to Principal Hotels.
