Atkins, one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies, has appointed Declan O’Carroll as its UK director for architecture, masterplanning and urban design.
In his new role, Declan will lead a team of 400 staff, developing Atkins’ national architectural masterplanning and urban design business and enhancing design and delivery capability for clients in the company’s core markets.
James Rose, Atkins’ building design director, said: “Declan will develop our business in the commercial and residential, and education markets, leading our efforts in transformative placemaking, regeneration and building design.”
Declan joins Atkins from Arup, where he held several leadership positions, including global architecture leader and UKMEA regional business leader. With over 25 years’ professional experience and a portfolio spread across the UK, Europe, Middle East, China and East Asia, Declan has led a number high profile and award winning projects, delivering excellence across a diverse range of sectors.
Declan lectures at a number of international architecture schools including the Manchester School of Architecture, University of Bath, The University of Virginia and at the V&A’s Sustaining Identity Symposium. He has also held a number of institutional positions and was a committee member for the British Council for Offices’ Green Issues Strategic Review.
He joined Atkins on the 19th June and is based at their London head office.
