Birmingham’s council is claiming that it will save £13m over the next four years after signing revamped housing repair deals for the city.
It has dropped the old system of having two specialist contractors for most tenants, separately covering gas and general repairs.
From April, council tenants will have repairs, maintenance, gas servicing and home improvements provided by one contractor – either Keepmoat, Wates Living Space or Willmott Dixon.

- Keepmoat: 8,865 properties, north of the city – Sutton Coldfield and Erdington districts
- Wates Living Space: 12,664 properties in west central Birmingham – Perry Barr and Ladywood districts – and 18,363 properties in east Birmingham – Hodge Hill, Yardley and Hall Green districts (31, 027 properties in total)
- Willmott Dixon: 23,429 properties in south Birmingham – Edgbaston, Selly Oak and Northfield districts
Birmingham’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Management and Homes, Cllr John Cotton, said: “As the old contracts came to an end we had a chance to take a fresh look at the services provided to our tenants and create a simpler process.
“The new contracts will also see some massive savings which will be ploughed back in to our housing services.”
