Building firm JG Hale Construction Ltd has been joined by members of Powys Council at a turf cutting ceremony to begin work on a 32-unit development on the council’s land north of Heol Ffynnon in Brecon.

JG Hale Constructions’ Managing Director, David Harrhy and Contracts Manager, Andrew Collins were joined by Powys County Councillors Matthew Dorrance and James Evans to ceremonially mark the start of work at the Brecon site. Also in attendance were Simone Hodges and Mike Jarrett from the Powys County Council Building Homes Team, Nina Davies, Head of Housing and Community, and Julian Stedman, Chair of the National Park Planning Committee. The development will be Powys County Council’s first affordable housing development for social rent in over 40 years.

JG Hale Construction Ltd is a Wales-based firm recognised for its commitment to innovative, eco-friendly design, quality materials and finishes and sustainable building practices. The £5.1m development will provide a mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom low-carbon accommodation available at an affordable rent. It is JG Hale’s first ever contract for Powys council and is part of a drive to provide more council housing in the area.

The company are committed to using local sub-contractors, with home-grown Welsh Timber being used in the construction of both the primary structure and external features, including cladding, windows and doors.

The innovative and attractive scheme, comprising a mix of flats and houses, has been commended by members of the BBNPA planning committee for its commitment to providing accessible recreation space and active travel.

This development, which will meet the needs of the local community, is just the first of many housing developments that we are planning across the county.  It will also help meet our Vision 2025 – to build a minimum of 250 affordable homes across the county.
