The MoD’s estate procurement arm is firing up plans to start work on large-scale runway improvements at RAF Marham in Norfolk.
The base is set for a major expansion after being earmarked as the European maintenance hub for the new generation of strike and fighter aircraft deployed around Europe.
The Prime Minister a year ago announced that more than £300m will be invested at RAF Marham, creating up to 1,000 extra jobs in its construction phase, ahead of it becoming the home base for two frontline F-35 Lightening II squadrons.
Work is expected to start on the two-year contract in January 2017 and will involve runway and taxiway improvements.
The Defence Infrastructure Organisation said there was also potential to extend the scope of the works to include a new build two-storey squadron office facility and refurbishment of hardened aircraft hangars.
