CUPA PIZARRAS’ CUPACLAD® Logic 101 rainscreen cladding has been specified in the renovation of the iconic Whiteleys Shopping Centre in London. The cladding system has been chosen by architectural firm Foster and Partners for its aesthetic appeal, with the intention that it will complement the existing Art Deco architecture. Furthermore, the system’s excellent performance credentials including non-combustibility and sustainability, were key requirements for the project.
The retrofit development will see the Grade II listed building in Kensington – now named The Whiteley – converted into a multi-use asset. It will include 139 premium modern residences, shops, cafes, restaurants, a central public courtyard, cinema, gym and a Six Senses Hotel and Spa. Work is due to begin in November 2022.
CUPACLAD® Logic 101 cladding will be a prominent component of the building’s mansard roof. The system utilises 40x20cm natural slates that are 7.65mm thick, fixed on to an aluminium substructure. As with all CUPA PIZARRAS products, the Spanish slates used on CUPACLAD® are classed as A1 non-combustible. The system is also resistant to water and extreme temperature changes, meaning the slates require no maintenance and will perform as intended for more than 100 years.
Finally, CUPA PIZARRAS is officially a carbon neutral company in accordance with the PAS 2060 standard, meaning that CUPACLAD® is also a sustainable choice, and in keeping with the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status targeted by the redevelopment.
Simon Hope, CUPACLAD® Product Manager at CUPA PIZARRAS concluded: “Our slates go through a rigorous testing process to ensure they meet the highest standards. We are delighted that their high quality has been recognised by Foster + Partners and that they have been selected to play such a fundamental role in this landmark redevelopment.”
