Aluminium manufacturing and installation company AB Glass has been awarded a contract to provide its services to the second phase of work in the redevelopment of the Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera campus, which will see £4.2m invested in a two storey teaching block.

The Swansea-based company has been appointed by Dawnus, an international civil engineering and building company, to install aluminium systems at the Welsh-medium secondary school.

Technal MY65 window systems, CD doors and MX curtain wall products will be used as part of the project. The work to be carried out by AB Glass is anticipated to start imminently.

Dawnus was awarded the Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera contract under the South West Wales Regional Contractors Framework (SWWRCF) as part of Neath Port Talbot Council’s school improvement plan for an all-through school providing Welsh medium education for over 1,100 pupils aged 3-18 in the north of the County Borough.

Nigel Harvey, operations director at AB Glass, commented: “We are thrilled to be working with Dawnus on this innovative project at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera. The redevelopment of the school is very positive for the community and we are proud to be a part of this. We look forward to seeing the completed project during September next year.”

AB Glass also provided services to Ysgol Bae Baglan in Neath Port Talbot, with the project recently being awarded the title of Best Educational Building at the grand final of the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2017.

AB Glass has worked on numerous education-based projects of late, with this sector being a substantial and continuing area of growth for the company. Other recent projects the company has been appointed for include: the new University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) campus being developed in Swansea Waterfront; Eastern High School in Cardiff; and Callywith College in Cornwall.

The company was announced winner of the Business of the Year award and the Manufacturing Business of the Year award at the Swansea Bay Business Awards 2017 earlier this year.
