After some sharp falls in investment in green energy in recent years, 2018 is shaping up to be an interesting year for the renewables industry.
This is why the focus of this year’s Energy 2018 show is solely on renewables. Taking place from 9 to 11 October as part of the UK’s largest construction event, UK Construction Week (UKCW), there are many issues up for discussion including:
- New policy thinking for the low energy retrofit sector coming out of the Each Home Counts review
- New developments in electric vehicles
- An increasing focus on how Britain will implement the clean growth strategy to meet its legally binding carbon budgets
- UK energy policy and industry experts debate on the likely outcome for the sector post-Brexit.
Former Green Party leader and current Sheffield MP, Natalie Bennett, will be taking on some of these hot topics in the REA Theatre, alongside Nina Skorupska, chief executive at REA, and Gareth Williams, managing director at Caplor Energy.
Sessions in the REA Theatre will also cover new innovations in clean fuels, battery storage, and electrical vehicles and how they work with the built environment. Energy 2018 will also host the REA Conference on 11 October.

The Innovation Trail provides the perfect opportunity to see what cutting edge products are on offer for the energy sector with exhibitors including Carbon-4 Thermal Systems, Ecovolt, Laminaheat, Quality Essential Distribution and Solecco Solar.
Other exhibitors at the show include the Renewable Energy Association, Eland Cables, EON Energy, Flogas, G2 Energy, and Libra Energy.
This year also sees the launch of the UKCW Role Models Campaign to champion the existing talent in the industry and to inspire the next generation.
Role models are taking part in an outreach programme, going to colleges and schools in the coming months to talk to students and teachers at key stages of their education to explain what inspired them to choose construction as a career and to bust any myths around the image of construction.
37 inspiring men and women, including Daniel Sullivan, electrical design engineer at Ridge & Partners LLP, have recently been shortlisted for this campaign, and the overall Role Model of the Year will be announced on 10 October.
Debates on major national and international construction issues will take place on the UKCW Stage. Speakers already confirmed include Phil Wilbraham, expansion programme director at Heathrow; Bridget Rosewell OBE, commissioner at the National Infrastructure Commission; Ben Derbyshire, RIBA president; and Ruth Davidson, National Housing Federation executive director.
