Executives at a Premier League football club are now enjoying their very own indoor patch of turf, thanks to the strength of F. Ball and Co. Ltd.’s Styccobond F3 adhesive for textile floorcoverings, which has been used to create a striking grass wall-effect focal point in their offices.
The project, part of an extensive refurbishment of a 1000m2 office area, sees the wall ‘pitch’ taking pride of place in the club’s business support departments, including fans’ membership and ticket services. Additionally, carpet tiles and luxury vinyl tiles were also used to make a bright, open-plan working environment for the staff.
To create the grass wall feature, contractors PMH Flooring applied Styccobond F3 adhesive to plywood panels affixed to an internal wall and placed artificial grass strips vertically, in a similar fashion to putting up wallpaper. Once in position, the ‘grass’ was pinned with nails as the adhesive dried to secure the fixture.
Styccobond F3 was recommended for its high initial wet grab and early build-up of strength, meaning it was quickly able to adhere the artificial grass to the wall before drying in just 20 minutes. Over 50 years since its original launch, the product is still the UK’s most used adhesive for textile floorcoverings, likely due to its compatibility with many different floorcoverings, including most carpets, and its approval for use in marine installations.
On the floor, a mixture of grey Milliken Clerkenwell Triangular Path and Naturally Drawn Watercolour Lesson carpet tiles were positioned randomly to create a unique installation in the open-plan area, with light green versions adding a pop of colour inside the seven meeting rooms.
Contractors opted for F. Ball’s Styccobond F41 carpet tile tackifier to provide a permanently tacky film which prevents loose lay carpet tiles from moving under normal foot traffic but enables them to be lifted and replaced easily when required; if they become damaged or worn, for example. The tackifier is also protected against biodegradation, suitable for use over normal underfloor heating installations and will withstand normal wet cleaning techniques.
