Forrest has completed the £2.8m development of affordable homes for Yorkshire Housing at Lamb Lane in Monk Bretton, Barnsley.
The company, based in Bolton, constructed 24 two and three bedroom family homes and bungalows on the site of a disused library, and will provide good-quality low cost homes in a popular area.
The homes have been developed in partnership with Barnsley Council, Berneslai Homes, Homes and Community Agency, Yorkshire Housing, Nicol Thomas, Acanthus WSM Architects and BGP Consulting. It includes a mix of homes for social rent and properties available to working people on low to medium incomes.
Neil Ashworth, head of new build at Forrest, said: “There is currently a significant shortfall in affordable homes across the UK, and helping bridge this gap remains a key part of our business model.
“Supplying good quality, low cost developments is key to helping residents take their first step on the property ladder, and continue to promote the ongoing development of Barnsley.”
Yorkshire Housing development project manager Linda Gray said: “This development makes excellent use of the site of a disused building by providing good-quality homes families can afford in popular area.
“Over the last five years we’ve delivered nearly 400 new homes in Barnsley in a range of areas to meet different needs. We played a key role in the regeneration of New Lodge and have also delivered affordable homes in Penistone where there’s a real lack of lower cost housing options.”
One of the streets on the scheme was named Butter Cross Park by local schoolgirl Catlin Louise Brown when a competition was held at St Helen’s Academy last year by Yorkshire Housing and Forrest. She chose the name due to the scheme’s proximity to an ancient stone monument and a park.
