Once regarded as a traditional industry, construction has gone through a revolution in recent years with the adoption of digital methods and techniques. While many companies have embraced this shift, there are those who are at a much earlier stage of their digital journey. No matter the level of understanding, Futurebuild 2020’s new Digital Impact Zone will bring together the latest digital innovations transforming the future of construction.

As the home of innovation, Futurebuild 2020 is partnering with Costello Palmer Communications to deliver the new zone dedicated to showcasing the most advanced technology and the most brilliant minds the industry has to offer. The Digital Impact Zone will be home to innovative brands leading the way in making the industry more efficient through digitalisation – each sharing their methods and solutions in tackling the biggest issues facing the built environment.

This exhibition of the latest thinking will be complemented by expert speakers sharing their extensive knowledge across two stages, alongside innovative displays and hands-on features where exhibitors will cater to all levels of understanding from adoption of BIM and digital construction methodologies.

Marie Grieve, managing director at Costello Palmer Communications, said: “If we’re going to talk about the future of the built environment, then the impact of digital must be high on the agenda. It’s the perfect time to be delivering Digital Impact at Futurebuild 2020 – technology has never been more important to the way we design and build and this new element of Futurebuild 2020 will provide visitors with the opportunity to collaborate with some of the greatest digital pioneers across the industry, learn more about the opportunities digital presents, and foster  relationships that have the potential to further change the industry for the better.”

Forty sessions will take place on the Digital Impact stages across the three days of the event (03 – 05 March 2020). These will cover everything from bite size information for those taking first steps into digital, to challenging debates around algorithms and AI for those looking for more in-depth learning. Additional discussions will cover Design for Manufacture Assembly (DfMA), Machine Learning, BIM Standards, Digital Twins and the disruptive technology that is having a positive impact across industry.

Speakers delivering the curated knowledge programme represent a cross-section of those leading the delivery of the digital agenda, including Casey Rutland, UK director at Royal HaskoningDHV and Vice Chair of the UK BIM Alliance,

Mark Enzer, chief technical officer at Mott MacDonald and Chair of the Digital Framework Task Group, Dr Oliver Jones, director of research at Ryder Architecture,

Katya Veleva, associate BIM strategy consultant of Archilizer, will deliver a session on the communication of digitisation. She said: “Digital transformation is one of the biggest challenges facing the construction industry. For far too long traditional methods have been holding the industry back, including the timescale of projects. Working closely with architects and designers I have noticed those that are more digitally advanced have progressed faster. Central to this advancement is the take-up of new technologies. Futurebuild 2020 is the perfect platform to educate the industry on how to unlock the potential of these new technologies and embrace this change.”

Martin Hurn, managing director of Futurebuild Events, said: “The addition of Digital Impact is absolutely necessary to address the challenges the industry faces in becoming fit for the future. Visitors will be able to expand their understanding of the technologies that are changing the way we plan, build and maintain our built environment, and the area will complement the innovative solutions showcased across the event.”
