Head of Education, Claire Wakelin, is the most recent member of the HLM Architects Senior Leadership Team to join the Board of Directors.
Effective from the beginning of October, Claire will take up the role of Education Board Sponsor while retaining the title Head of Education, which she took up in April 2022. Claire has contributed significantly to the practice since she joined in 2018 as HLM’s London Studio Director.
A key part of Claire’s approach to her new roles will be to remain visible and leading key projects, drawing on her experience to ensure continued stability for the Education Sector.
Her diverse portfolio of projects includes the Department for Educations (DfE) four-year £3 billion ‘Offsite Schools framework’ with modular construction manufacturer Reds10, and the £32 million London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE) project at King’s College London.
Claire brings to the board a hands-on approach, and vast experience of leading project teams and in business development. Her ability to foster close client relationships built on trust through great communication skills and visibility will further support the board and the Education Sector in future growth.
Richard O’Neil, Chair, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Claire onto the Board. Claire’s wealth of experience, excellent client development skills and strategic visioning will be a valuable addition that will contribute to our long-term success. Her knowledge of the Education sector will support our teams to continue to design places of education that inspire and help transform the lives of all ages and abilities. “
Philip Watson, Head of Design, commented: “Claire has made a very significant contribution to the practice since she joined HLM six years ago. Now heading our education sector at Board level, she brings considerable experience and is a natural strategic thinker and leader. She will undoubtedly play a key role in delivering our future success.“
Claire’s promotion is part of our commitment to the continuous evolution of both our practice and individuals, recognising that learning and moving forwards is intrinsic to producing our best work in a changing industry.
