Higgins Construction has been awarded two silver and one bronze award at this year’s Considerate Constructors National Site Awards. Bourne Estate in Camden and Gabriel Square in St Albans, Hertfordshire have each been given a silver award and King Square in Islington has received a bronze award.
The awards recognise those sites registered with the Scheme that have raised the bar for considerate construction. The sites must demonstrate an appreciation of the impact of their work on the community, the environment and their workforce and the CCS rewards the UK’s most considerate sites for their contribution.
Steve Leakey, Managing Director of Higgins Construction comments, “To have three sites receive awards at this year’s awards is an excellent achievement for all those involved. It also demonstrates our continued commitment to improving the image of construction. We are extremely proud of these awards.”
The judges commented that Bourne Estate was “an excellent site with an exceptional approach to working in the local community and safety within and around the site and fully embracing the principles of CLOCS (Construction Logistics and Community Safety). The site has also been committed to encouraging young people into the industry and had five apprentices on site and has given two permanent jobs.”
Judges remarked on Gabriel Square’s silver award, “It is clear that the site team are committed to the CCS and the use of a champions team from across the site in different areas has in a large part contributed towards their considerable success. The site is a joy to visit. Across all sections it is difficult to see where they can improve, short of finding innovations to do so. It is no surprise that they are one of the top contributors to the Best Practice Hub. Overall an exceptional result.”
King Square was award a bronze award. The judges reported that ”the site team are all fully committed and enthusiastic in ensuring that the impact the project has within the community is minimal and delivered with respect and will have been a positive experience. This is an exceptional site fully commitment to the ethos of the CC Scheme.”
Commenting on the awards, Scheme Chief Executive Edward Hardy said: “The growth of the National Site Awards year-on-year reflects the expansion of the construction industry’s commitment to raise standards in considerate construction across an ever increasing number of sites throughout the UK and Ireland.
“This year’s award-winning sites have all demonstrated a relentless commitment to help improve the image of our industry. They have taken this commitment to new levels.”
