Howarth Timber & Building Supplies raised £1,000 for Cancer Research UK through a charity football match.

Held at Newcastle Town FC, the 11-a-side game pitted Howarth staff and customers, with a little help from ex-pros, Ricardo Fuller and Mamady Sidibe and Howarth Timbers very own Stacey Whilock, against charity team Men Unite, who represent men suffering from mental health issues.

A 200-strong crowd cheered on as the Howarth All-Stars, donned in a branded strip specially commissioned for the game, battled it out over a full 90-minutes until the final whistle marked a 6-6 draw.

Cancer Research UK was Howarth’s charity of the year for 2019 and a cause the company has supported through various events. A worthy beneficiary, the organisation was renewed as charity of the year following the death of a much-valued colleague from the firm’s accounts team, and other family and friends close to many of the team at Howarth Timber & Building Supplies.

Colin Tansley, Newcastle-under-Lyme branch manager at Howarth Timber & Building Supplies, said: “It was a fantastic day and an important event for our year supporting Cancer Research, a charity very close to our hearts. We intend to make this an annual event to support various charities Howarth choose to support over the next few years.

“We try to do our bit and give back to a worthy cause when we can, and this match is just one of the many ways in which we’ve fundraised this year.

“We’re really humbled by the financial and moral support received from our customers and suppliers and have big ambitions to make the match an annual event, so watch this space!”
