Ibstock, the UK’s leading manufacturer of clay bricks and building products, is celebrating after taking home four awards at the prestigious BDA Brick Awards 2019. The wins are in recognition of a number of outstanding projects the company has collaborated on with its customers across the past year.
The awards, which celebrate the very best examples of how clay brick is used to innovate and inspire across the built environment, took place last week (Thursday, 14th November) at the Royal Lancaster London. The ceremony is the biggest night in the brick industry’s calendar, with more than 600 of the UK’s leading industry professionals in attendance, representing some of the nation’s foremost manufacturers, architects, housebuilders, merchants and brickwork contractors.
Ibstock projects scooped top awards in a number of categories. The ‘Refurbishment’ award went to David Chipperfield Architects, Julian Harrap Architects and Titan Brickwork for their amazing work on the iconic Royal Academy of Arts building in London, which features Ibstock’s handmade Swanage Kingston bricks.
Maccreanor Lavington’s Porters Edge project in London, featuring Ibstock’s products in a range of colours, took the prize in the ‘Large Housing Development (101 units or more)’ category, with Croudace Homes winning the ‘Housebuilder’ award for a number of projects including The Lanes in Chelmsford, where Ibstock Brick’s Leicester Autumn Multi-Red has created an eye-catching new build development.
Finally, the coveted ‘Specialist Brickwork Contractor’ prize was awarded to Lee Marley Brickwork for two outstanding examples of brick craftsmanship on the Defence National Rehabilitation Centre in Leicestershire (designed by John Simpson Architects and Purcell) and the Orchard Gardens development in London (Panter Hudspith Architects).
Ibstock was also highly commended in a number of other categories, including ‘Small Housing Development’ for the W1 project in London (Dixon Jones Architects), ‘Medium Housing Development’ for the Roof Gardens development (Ollier Smurthwaite Architects) and the Defence National Rehabilitation Centre was also highly commended in two categories – the ‘Public’ and ‘Craftsmanship’ categories.
