Ibstock, one of the UK’s leading brick manufacturers, is celebrating after projects featuring its bricks won in five categories of the Brick Development Association’s (BDA) Brick Awards 2023, held at the Royal Lancaster Gate Hotel.
The awards are the highlight of the brick industry calendar and see a huge range of projects entered across a range of categories, covering developments of all sizes in both the UK and internationally. This year projects featuring Ibstock bricks emerged as the winner in five categories, including: Individual Housing Development, Housebuilder, Education, Urban Regeneration, and Special Brickwork Contractor. Additionally, Ibstock bricks were used in a project receiving a commendation in the Public category, Springfield Hospital. The diversity of the category wins demonstrate the breadth of Ibstock’s product range and the variety of industry sectors and project types in which they are used, reinforcing its guiding purpose to build a better world by being at the heart of building.
Kate Guy, Sales Director for Ibstock Clay Division, commented: “We are thrilled with the outcome of this year’s awards, especially considering the high standard of entries that the event garners. Our success is the result of hard work and our continued commitment to high quality and aesthetic products that combine durability and technical performance.
“With over 200 years manufacturing in the UK Ibstock continues to develop and invest in its product range and support its clients. At Ibstock we are proud to support the UK construction industry by offering our customers a wide range of products manufactured in Britain and providing high quality solutions that continue to meet the best possible standard of performance without compromising technical performance or the design’s overall aesthetic.”
The Housebuilder Category winner Taylor Wimpey, specified Ibstock for two developments, Ockley Park in West Sussex, and Tudor Park in Hertfordshire. Ockley Park used a combination of Ibstock’s Staffordshire Slate Blue Smooth and Surrey County Red, while the Tudor Park project consisted of Arundel and Cissbury brick.
About the projects, the judges commended Taylor Wimpey’s: “Commitment to act on a climate change and develop their net zero target to achieve net zero emissions by 2045, ahead of the UK’s 2050 target.” This pledge aligns with Ibstock’s ESG strategy to decarbonise products, processes and supply chain by focusing on carbon reduction, water efficiency and biodiversity gains with a commitment to be a net zero operation by 2040.
The Education category was won by the White School Project, in Clapham. The project designed by vPPR Architects uses Ibstock’s Burgundy and White Glazed Bricks.
Discussing the development, the judges said: “A very neatly designed building that serves to enhance its older (and varied) neighbours and in what is a wide street of mixed styles. It is cleverly planned internally and externally”.
Kate Guy said, “This has been a great night for Ibstock and a testament to the high quality of our products. The feedback from the judges has been superb and reflects the technical performance and aesthetic design that Ibstock bricks achieve.”
