Leading building services provider J S Wright has secured a contract worth almost £4.5m to help drive one of the UK’s largest urban regeneration projects.

The Birmingham-based mechanical and electrical design and build specialist, which also has offices in Bristol and London, is to fit out all 242 homes in Phase 1B of the new 1,500-home Blackwall Reach development in East London.

The £300m housing scheme for NU Living is aimed at creating an exciting new urban neighbourhood with luxurious eco-friendly mixed-tenure homes and a host of community facilities at Poplar in Tower Hamlets.

Hill has commissioned J S Wright, which also has the design contract, to provide and install the mechanical services for the 242 apartments across a new 23-storey tower and two nine-storey blocks overlooking the River Thames.

The award-winning company will equip all the apartments with energy efficient underfloor heating systems supported by a low pressure hot water feed from a centralised energy centre that will produce combined heat and power.

J S Wright will also install a cold water booster set and tank room together with hot and cold water distribution piping to all the properties, an eco-friendly internal rainwater system, and wet risers to support a residential sprinkler system.

It will also reduce the building energy costs by installing an energy saving mechanical ventilation heat recovery system, which will extract stale air from apartments and replace it with fresh incoming air heated by the outgoing air.

The company will start work on site in August 2017 at the attractive landscaped development, which has replaced a 1960s brutalist-style housing scheme. Completion of Phase 1B of Blackwall Reach is scheduled for June 2019.

J S Wright is already working on site with Hill on a new 144-home affordable homes scheme at nearby New Union Wharf on the Isle of Dogs. It is also in the process of fitting out a range of other London schemes totalling almost 800 new homes for the developer in Alperton, Muswell Hill and Brentford.

Marcus Aniol, Managing Director of J S Wright, said: “We are delighted that one of Britain’s leading housebuilders has once again chosen us to support them in developing one of the UK’s biggest urban regeneration projects.”

J S Wright, which was founded in Birmingham in 1890, specialises in the design and installation of mechanical and electrical (M&E) services for the hotel, residential, social housing, student accommodation, leisure and commercial sectors.

The company was voted one of the UK’s Top Ten Specialist Contractors to Work For in the 2016 Construction Enquirer Awards, and named H&V News Building Services Contractor of the Year in 2015.
