Johnstone’s Trade has once again launched its hunt for the UK’s best young painting and decorating talent, with its 2018 Young Painter of the Year competition. Now in its 14th year, the search is set to be the biggest yet, with more prizes than ever before, including cash and the latest painting and decorating products from top suppliers.

In a twist on previous years, the 2018 Young Painter of the Year competition will crown a total of eight regional winners, as well as eight runners-up. Entrants will battle it out at their nearest skills-based regional final, taking place at colleges across the UK throughout April and May.

The winners from each region will receive £200, as well as a fantastic prize bundle of quality decorating tools from a range of leading suppliers, including Toupret, Purdy, 3M, Mirka, Packexe and more.

Runners-up will also be awarded a cash prize of £100, while everyone that takes part will receive a selection of Fat Hog sundries.

What’s more, this year’s eight regional winners will also be invited to get involved in Johnstone’s Trade’s many charitable painting and decorating projects across the UK.

Helen Tiplady, Specification Marketing Manager at Johnstone’s Trade, said: “We know there is a shortage of young people embarking on skilled careers, such as painting and decorating, in the UK. Young Painter of the Year is a fantastic way for us to support, encourage and celebrate young decorators as they begin their careers. We’ve switched up the competition this year to give each region its own stand-alone final, so that we can reward even more winners.

“By inviting the winners to get involved in Johnstone’s Trade projects within their region, we’re also giving them the chance to gain practical experience and give something back to their local communities.”

To qualify for this year’s Young Painter of the Year competition, applicants need to be aged 17–27 and currently studying towards an NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Painting and Decorating or a Diploma in Construction Level 2.
