The £40m Centre in Northern Ireland will be the future model

for integrated primary health and social care

Award-winning developer and investor Kajima is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the contract to develop a new Primary and Community Care Centre in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

Kajima is the main developer, working in partnership with GPI and O’Hare & McGovern to form GPG O’Hare, the consortium that has been selected by The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust to build and manage the £40 million project. Graham Asset Management will undertake the facilities management requirements for the new facility over the contract term.

Situated on the Lagan Valley Hospital site, the 12,792sqm Centre will be jointly funded by GPG O’Hare and Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale (NORD/LB), and will bring together eight GP practices and other health care services into a single facility.

Jitesh Patel, Project Director,

As well as providing accommodation for GP services, the Centre will offer a wide range of facilities for outpatient and diagnostic services across a range of specialties to serve the city of Lisburn and its hinterland.  It is expected that construction of the new facility will create approximately 250 jobs.  Work is scheduled to commence in April 2019, with the development being fully operational in 2021.

When complete the Centre will offer modern, fit for purpose consultation and treatment facilities for a wide range of primary care services such as allied health professionals, children’s services, adult mental health, addiction services and will be better enabled to meet the needs of patients for the 21st century.

By integrating primary and community care services under one roof, the new Centre will encourage multi-disciplinary, community-centred care, representing a transformation in the way that health care is delivered, in line with the Department of Health’s vision, as set out in the ‘Health and Wellbeing 2026- Delivering Together’ strategy.

Hugh McCaughey, Chief Executive  South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust commented:

“We are delighted to be working with GPG O’Hare to develop the Lisburn Primary & Community Care Centre and deliver our model of care, where we bring services closer to the patient’s home. We are confident that this new development will transform how care is provided in Lisburn and the surrounding area. By moving services from an acute hospital base – to a community-centred setting, with greater integration, we hope to ultimately achieve better outcomes for our patients.”

Jitesh Patel, Project Director, Kajima Partnerships said:

“We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to develop the new Primary & Community Care Centre for Lisburn. This is a landmark development in healthcare provision and one which reflects our commitment to delivering outstanding facilities tailored to meet the specific needs of the local community.

“We look forward to working with the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust and our partners GPI and O’Hare & McGovern to ensure that the Centre is completed to the highest possible standards, making healthcare more accessible to the local community, helping to reduce hospital admissions.”

Neil Wilson, Senior Director, Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale (Nord/LB) said:

““Nord/LB is delighted to support the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust and the GPG O’Hare consortium in this important transaction for the surrounding community of Lisburn which will see a dynamic improvement in primary care services. This fits well with Nord/LB’s ethos of social infrastructure financings and we look forward to seeing the community benefits of this project in 2021 and beyond.”
