Langley Structures Limited has launched a new RIBA approved Continuous Professional Development (CPD) course on Flat to Pitched (FTP) roof conversion. The session is designed to introduce specifiers to the features of the systems, the benefits, and considerations with regard to the design and installation.
Flat to Pitched roof conversions consist of a specially designed lightweight metal frame that is constructed over the existing flat roof to support a new pitched roof. The FTP systems provide an excellent way of regenerating a building by not only upgrading the look of the building but also extending the life expectancy and cost effectiveness of the roof.
The one hour session entitled Lightweight Structural Frames, Design and Installation Over Existing Flat Roofs is delivered by a member of Langley Structures’ technical team and with the RIBA accreditation qualifying CPD points are doubled.
The course starts with an introduction to the FTP concept and materials used. It then covers the reasons why a conversion may be considered, such as improving insulation levels, solving issues with the existing roof, aesthetic improvements or to introduce sustainable technologies such as solar PV panels or rainwater harvesting. Also included in the presentation is an overview of the design, structural and installation considerations as well as the integration of existing services, fire protection and access requirements. The CPD concludes with examples of how the systems have been used in practice.
