Nottingham City Homes (NCH) will start work to create a whole new outdoor space on top of the intu Victoria Centre on Monday (12 February).
As part of its Decent Neighbourhoods programme, NCH is creating an outdoor space for residents, which will feature a range of different seating areas, timber raised beds, two wall murals, and carefully selected trees and planting to suit the urban environment.
The garden will be based on the fourth floor of the flats, directly above the shopping centre. The project is expected to take 18 weeks to complete.
Jonathan Shaw, Director of Investment and Business Services at NCH, said: “ We ’ re delighted to be getting this project underway. There has always been an outdoor space for residents at Victoria Centre, but it needs to be brought back to life and made accessible and inspiring for those who live there.
“In consultation with the residents, the garden has been sympathetically designed to create a place people can go to relax, meet with friends, and enjoy a sunny day. ”
NCH has been speaking to people who live in the Victoria Centre flats about the project, and a group of residents will help to maintain the garden once the works are complete.
The construction team carrying out the scheme will be working hard to deliver the project as efficiently as possible, with minimal disruption. There will be one lane closure, on Glasshouse Street near the entrance to the intu Victoria Centre’ s car park from 9am until 2pm on Monday 12 February and 9am till 2pm on Tuesday 13 February, to operate a crane safely near the site.
The project has been designed by Nottingham horticultural specialists, Hosta Consulting, and is being delivered on NCH ’ s behalf by the Highways team at Nottingham City Council. A CGI video showing the new design is available to view and download here: https://goo.gl/J9PhHm
