Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC) is celebrating a significant milestone in its contract with housing refurbishment specialist Lovell. Since being awarded the refurbishment contract last year, Lovell has transformed 500 homes, improving the lives of tenants with new kitchens and bathrooms.

Cllr Julie Jackson visited Norman Dennis, the tenant of the 500th council house to be refurbished. Cllr Jackson says: “Lovell has made fantastic progress with our refurbishment programme, delivering 500 new kitchen and bathroom replacements since taking up the contract in 2016.

“Because we managed to make savings in the tendering and contract processes, we have vastly increased the number of properties being refurbished and improved the lives of more tenants than in previous years. The feedback we’ve received from tenants is excellent and I’m delighted to celebrate this wonderful milestone.”

Mr Dennis says: “I love my new kitchen and bathroom; they made a good job of it!’

His daughter, Sue Taylor, adds: “We all thought the upheaval would be very inconvenient but this has turned into a really positive experience. We have supported each other and I think we have become an even bigger family, including residents, staff from both NBBC and Lovell – everyone has got on so well.

“Dad had to spend more time in the communal room but he actually really enjoyed the company. For me as his carer, the new facilities are great and so very easy to keep clean.”

Lovell regional refurbishment director Carl Yale comments: “We’re delighted to bring our expertise in undertaking successful large-scale housing improvement programmes to this important scheme for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. Our focus is always on ensuring that residents are at the heart of what we do. We have a strong record of delivering improvement work carried out to the highest standard and with the utmost consideration for householders. Lovell’s specialist resident liaison team are the main point of contact for residents, ensuring they are fully informed about the work and happy at every stage of the process.”
