Marley Alutec has supplied a guttering, fascia and soffit solution for Howiesonhall, a private house in Crossford, Scotland. The aluminium Evolve Deepflow guttering and Tudor downpipes mimic the appearance of cast iron ensuring the property maintains its traditional aesthetic. Furthermore, bespoke radiused sections overcame several curved roofing sections – avoiding any installation issues.
Unfortunately for Aileen Morrison, owner of Howiesonhall, the original cast iron guttering on her property was too shallow, meaning it would often overflow in periods of heavy rain. The system had to be replaced and there was the added challenge that the roof of the property had several curves.
“I was worried that these requirements would complicate a new guttering installation,” said Aileen. “I began looking for an aluminium solution as I knew it was a high-quality material that requires little maintenance and I discovered Marley Alutec. The fact that the company offered a custom design as well as installation advice was crucial for me.”
The Marley Alutec Area Sales Manager (ASM) for Scotland recommended the Evolve Deepflow gutters and Tudor 76mm downpipes, with bespoke radiused gutter sections for the curves. The Evoke aluminium fascia and soffit was also ideal as it could be easily formed to fit the curvature of the building on-site by the installer. The system was eventually selected in Heritage Black, which helped to imitate the appearance of the previous cast iron system.
Evolve Deepflow is a 128 x 75mm rainwater gutter system that has a flow rate of up to 4.9 l/s and 232m2 per downpipe. Along with the Tudor Circular downpipes, the system is 65% lighter than traditional cast iron, so it is far easier to install. Both products are made from marine-grade aluminium, meaning they are strong, durable and provide a functional life expectancy of 50+ years.
To create the required bespoke sections, Marley Alutec used the Segmented Radiused Gutter method. This is achieved by internally welding together segments of machine mitred gutter to a given radius.
To undertake the installation, the ASM recommended Frank O’Hara from Faskin Group – a local roofing contractor. Frank commented: “Having worked with Marley Alutec before, I was confident that the project would be successful. The installation went well, thanks mainly to the products, which are always of a good quality, lightweight and easy to work with. I also really appreciated the ASM’s support and he was particularly helpful with the radiused element and helping us to achieve the right finish.”
The work on Howiesonhall was completed in two weeks and for Aileen Morrison the results were ideal: “I thought the bespoke requirements would be far more difficult to complete but Marley Alutec and Frank made light work of them – the whole process was painless. I’m really pleased with the new gutters and downpipes and would definitely recommend Marley Alutec to others.”
