Major new development plans for Liverpool and Birmingham were unveiled on the first day of the MIPIM property show in Cannes this week.
Liverpool City Council launched the hunt for a development partner to create a new “cultural garden suburb” on the banks of the Mersey. The 90-acre former International Festival Gardens site will be renamed Festival Park Liverpool.
A revised masterplan for the site will be considered by the council next month with the potential to build 2,500 new homes.
Birmingham has also confirmed plans for one of the country’s biggest industrial developments in the north east of the city. Birmingham Peddimore could contain 265,000 sq m of new industrial floorspace as the council looks for investors.
Councillor John Clancy, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “Peddimore shows our ambition to deliver an exemplary industrial scheme that will become a catalyst for major growth and investment. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring thousands of skilled jobs to the area on the edge of our great city with enviable transport links. We’re confident that this scheme will attract even more world-class businesses to the region, and I believe that presenting this Visioning Document at MIPIM will be the first step toward delivering a true legacy in the local area.”
