County Tyrone developer McAleer and Rushe is set to build a new 30m four-star hotel in Glasgow.

The firm, which is based in Cookstown, has signed up to an agreement with its long-term collaborator, Irish hotel group Dalata.

Staff from McAleer and Rushe will be building the 250-bed hotel on Renfrew Street in the city centre.

Meanwhile, Dalata confirmed the Maldron Hotel off Bedford Street in Belfast will be opening in the middle of March next year.

It will be the company’s fourth in the province, among 39 hotels across the UK and Ireland.

McAleer and Rushe director Stephen Surphlis said the deal signalled improved confidence.

“The announcement of our latest lease deal with Dalata represents the growing confidence in key regional UK cities for hotel operators, particularly in Scotland,” he added.

“This major new four-star Maldron Hotel will be an exciting addition to this dynamic consumer and business hub.

“Working with the Dalata Group we are developing a number of hotel projects across the UK and Ireland and we look forward to partnering with them once again on this new project.”

The firm already operates the Clayton Hotel in Belfast’s Ormeau Avenue, as well as Maldron hotels in Londonderry and at Belfast International Airport.
