Michelmersh Manor Farm is a historic family farm set in idyllic surroundings in the heart of the Test Valley, Hampshire. It has a range of accommodation for visitors to the area and new in time for Easter this year will be a conversion of the farm’s 275 year-old listed  barn into 2 self-catering units, each perfect for a family of Four in the smaller unit, and up to six in the larger unit .  The original adjacent tithe barn is said to be the largest in Hampshire set on saddle stones.

The barn conversion will be in addition to the other self-catering options set in the heart of the historic farmhouse building – Bluebells, Foxglove and The Manor.  And a recent addition is 2 shepherd huts, with mod-cons and glorious views.

The first barn unit will have 2 en-suite bedrooms and a downstairs toilet and the second will have a king-sized bed on the ground floor level for those that can’t manage the stairs. Upstairs is a double bedroom. The units boast fully equipped kitchen, wood-burners  and cosy furniture including sumptuous sofas and seating.  The bathrooms have showers and baths and both units include TV and wi-fi. Puzzles and games as well as books and a leaflet of local walks (including pubs!) are also in all the accommodation units, adding to the experience.

Says Fran Drake, who runs the farm with her husband: ‘This will be a very exciting new addition to the farm’s holiday lets and we’ll be taking bookings for early April very soon.  We hope to offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy the experience of farm life at its best, in a barn full of Medieval history!  The barn has been in a state of disrepair for such a long time and it will be wonderful to see it come alive once more.  We look forward to welcoming visitors very soon’.

Michelmersh Manor Farm has a unique history, first being recorded in 1205 as a Masonic grange with a Grand hall, chapel and fortified gate head. Valuable grain, paid as tithes would have been stored in its big granary. There is evidence of Iron Age and Roman era occupation nearby and the farmhouse and associated buildings are of great medieval interest.  So as well as a slice of farm life visitors can be assured that they will experience history, too, during their stay.
