Mumford & Wood, the Tiptree-based manufacturer of high-quality timber windows and doors, is having a year to remember in 2024. The company has won three industry awards in the past year and is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Mumford & Wood will be exhibiting at the 30th anniversary London Homebuilding & Renovating Show from 27-29 September at ExCeL London.

Last year the company won Timber Company of the Year at the National Fenestration Awards – one of the most prestigious accolades within the timber woodworking industry. Now in their 10th year, these awards celebrate companies and individuals across the UK and organisations are nominated, shortlisted and awarded by public vote.

The company has also won two awards from BUILD magazine, including Best High-Quality Timber Windows & Door Manufacturer 2024 (in the Home Builder category) and Best Premium Timber Windows and Doors Supplier 2024 (in the Construction and Engineering Awards).

After achieving Carbon Neutral status in 2022, the company achieved Carbon Neutral + status this year, awarded when an organisation has calculated its greenhouse gas emissions and offset all emissions plus an extra 10 per cent on top.

Mumford & Wood has already pledged to plant a native tree for every completed project in addition to working to aid deforestation projects overseas. Steps have also been taken to reduce the factory’s carbon footprint by introducing solar panels, recycling schemes, and hybrid and electric vehicles.

Matthew Blaylock, commercial director says: “Our 70th year is turning out to be a remarkable one for the company. As a premium timber window and door manufacturer, quality is at the forefront of everything we do. From our careful selection of premium grade FSC timber, investment in precision machinery and employing the best joiners, we make every effort to produce outstanding products that stand the test of time.”

The Mumford & Wood story began in 1954 when two woodworking apprentices, Derek Mumford and Dennis Wood, formed their business partnership, primarily undertaking refurbishment work in and around Essex. Increasing demand in the following decades saw them eventually move to their current base in Tiptree in the 1990s.

During this time, Mumford & Wood were the first UK manufacturer to install an automated window construction line. Later, an increasing focus on the architectural market saw them producing the industry’s first fully factory-finished double-glazed sash window and pioneering a system for recreating Georgian glazing bar styles. Mumford & Wood has also invested millions in computerised plant and equipment.

Mumford & Wood will be exhibiting at stand F161 at the London Homebuilding & Renovating Show, from 27-29 September at ExCeL London.

Visitors to the show will be able to discuss their projects with leading industry specialists and enjoy impartial one-to-one advice during a 15-minute expert consultation at the Advice Centre (sponsored by Internorm). Showgoers will be able to browse and try out thousands of products and services presented by over 250 exhibitors as well as attend any of a series of around 80 seminars, including those at the Self Build Theatre (sponsored by Self Build Zone) and masterclasses at the Masterclass Theatre (sponsored by Kitchens 4 DIY).
