As the government and industry debate how to cut back on the staggering 3.7 million tonnes* of plastic waste produced in the UK every year, one company is tackling the problem head on with the launch of a new range of innovative fencing kits made entirely from recycled plastic waste.

The new Smartafix Forever Fence kits by Plastecowood is the company’s latest initiative to offer local authorities and organisations such as colleges, schools and universities a hard-wearing solution for their fencing requirements – as well as a way for them to help cut down on plastic waste in the environment.

Plastecowood is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of high endurance, long life recycled plastic lumber and has a unique manufacturing process that can take low grade plastic waste that would previously have been sent to China or to landfill and incineration in the UK.  For every 1 tonne of recycled plastic waste the company uses, 700kg of carbon is diverted from landfill.

Made from Smartawood – a super durable lumber produced from recycled plastic waste – the new fencing kits offer an easy to assemble, high endurance fence with pre-drilled holes.  Virtually no fixings are required and the kits come in different styles including knee rails, durable boundary fencing and equestrian styling.

John Northcott, managing director at Plastecowood says:  “Smartawood offers our customers a number of benefits not least its durability which can significantly reduce the whole life cost of projects*.  Our product is more rigid than many of our competitors and what’s more, as we can process such low grades of plastic waste that nobody else can, our costs are lower so we are more economical.

“At a time when we are faced with a growing plastic waste problem in the UK, Smartawood products like these new fencing kits provide organisations with a chance to help do something about this growing issue.

“The Smartafix Forever Fencing kits really are a no-brainer for many organisations for these reasons as well as the fact that they are so easy to install and look great.  By choosing these, customers are taking positive action towards tackling the UK’s plastic waste crisis.”

Due to the long life nature of Smartawood, the Smartafix Forever Fence kits require no maintenance, no replacements, no paint, no coatings and no preservatives as they do not rot and are expected to last indefinitely.   Uses include car park delineation, highways boundaries, and on college and university campuses.

The fencing kits can be purchased direct from Plastecowood and a closed loop system is offered whereby if an organisation provides their plastic waste, they can purchase Smartawood products at a reduced rate.

In addition to the fencing, Smartawood can be bought as lumber, which has numerous uses including external structures such as decking, walkways, boardwalks, steps, signage and staging.  Pre-assembled kits for park furniture, restaurant and pub picnic tables and crates are also available as well as a bespoke design and assemble service.
