Two members of the National Federation of Builders (NFB) have just celebrated reaching a milestone operating in construction.
The John Turner Construction Group, an established and well respected company operating across the north west, has celebrated 110 years in business.
Formed in 1907 as a building and civil engineering contractor, the company has grown to provide its public and private sector services in general construction, specialist joinery manufacture, maintenance and electrical installation. With a turnover in excess of £75 million, John Turner operates from different offices based in Preston, Liverpool, and Manchester and employs more than 240 people.
The company has operated a well established apprenticeship scheme throughout its history, and has achieved 23 RoSPA gold medal awards over the last 12 consecutive years. Constructing the iconic Preston Guild Hall in 1972, John Turner has worked with various clients including universities in the north west region, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
In addition, Midlands-based and family run construction firm, Arden Construction, has reached 25 years of success in the industry. They have been members of the NFB for 24 years.
Carl Brooker and John Harwood joined forces to launch the business in June 1992. They originally worked out of a two-room office on Alcester High Street, Warwickshire. The company initially employed five members of staff and started with four vehicles.
Over 25 years, Arden Construction has developed and maintained buildings for schools and healthcare organisations. They also carried out industrial heritage work for notable clients such as The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, National Trust, and The British Film Institute.
Richard Beresford, chief executive of the NFB, said: “We exist to help our members build prosperous businesses and create optimal conditions for the industry so it’s brilliant to see them succeed. We heartily congratulate both John Turner and Arden Construction on their achievements. We have some brilliant business minds amongst our membership who are happy to share their knowledge and experience so we really encourage our members to network with each other. There is a lot of support available.”
