The specialist refurbishment team upgrading thousands of homes for Bristol City Council have scooped partnership housing developer Lovell’s first National Health and Safety Award.

The Lovell project team in Bristol were selected against strong competition from the company’s nationwide regional businesses because of their outstanding health and safety performance over the first quarter of 2017.

On average, more than 1,200 kitchens are refitted and 450 homes are rewired annually through the Bristol programme, now in its sixth year, with residents continuing to live in their homes during the work.

Presenting the award, Lovell managing director Jonathan Goring said: “Keeping people and communities safe is of paramount importance to Lovell, so I couldn’t be more delighted to recognise the Bristol team’s consistently excellent health and safety performance during the delivery of this important, large-scale housing improvement programme for council homes in Bristol.

“Their success clearly demonstrates the benefits of a highly collaborative partnership approach; the team works very closely with Council and with its supply chain partners to achieve the highest standards of health and safety. This award also underlines the team’s technical expertise and their proactive focus on constantly reviewing and streamlining the way they operate to identify how further improvements can be made.”

The latest accolade for the team follows on from their achievement of four Considerate Constructors Scheme national site awards for the Bristol refurbishment project, in recognition of the high levels of consideration shown for residents and the local community during the improvement programme. The project has twice been a runner-up for the national Considerate Constructors Scheme title of Most Considerate Site.
