The Property Services arm of Huddersfield-based Kirklees Neighborhood Housing (KNH) has been awarded its fourth consecutive Gold Award from the NHBC Safe Mark scheme, recognising yet another year of outstanding health and safety performance. This comes just one year after a successful merger between KNH and Kirklees Council’s Building Services, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to the highest possible standards.

Social housing provider KNH achieved a rating of ‘excellent’ in the audit – the highest possible score. To achieve this, the organisation has consistently demonstrated its commitment to maintaining the strictest safety standards and rigorous safety management systems at its construction sites and depots across the district.

The NHBC scheme is designed to test the effectiveness of health and safety systems and benchmark them against industry standards. It demonstrates an organisation’s responsible attitude to staff and provides reassurance that there are appropriate risk management strategies in place.

The recent audit included a detailed inspection of health and safety management systems and operational practices at Property Services’ in Huddersfield as well as several sites around Kirklees, where they work closely with colleagues in other parts of the company to ensure that staff and customers’ health and safety are paramount.

Phil Moulson, Health and Safety Advisor for NHBC, commented, “Overall, the health and safety management system operated by Kirklees Neighborhood Housing is excellent. They continue to recognise that this is achieved by investing in their people, fit-for-purpose systems and user-friendly policies, as well as a culture of continuous improvement. Their approach should be applauded as the gold standard in health and safety management.”

KNH Chief Executive, Liz Cook, says: “This really is a great achievement for our Property Services team and for KNH. The health and safety of our people, our tenants and our working environment is of the utmost importance to us. Our teams work tirelessly to ensure this and it’s fantastic to see it recognised yet again by an independent audit through the NHBC. .”
