Rula Developments has been appointed by the Cheshire West and Chester Council and Public Sector Plc partnership Build&Thrive to deliver the expansion of Winsford Industrial Estate located off Junction 18 of the M6.
The news comes after the Build&Thrive announced plans to start a £5 million first phase package of infrastructure works to create the principle access off Road One along with the primary services for the site.
Rula has already delivered a 168,000 sq ft, £22 million state of the art factory for Tiger Trailers on the estate.  With full planning consent in place to develop a further 30 acres, Rula has released plots for 18.5 acres industrial/distribution use, 5 acres for roadside/amenities and a further 7 acres for smaller industrial/business uses.
Ben Ward, Managing Director at Rula Developments said, “We are delighted to be working with the team at Build&Thrive to bring forward this development which has potential to create over 600 more jobs and significant economic gain for the region. The estate is already a well-established location with great amenities, but with the extension of the Estate it will give businesses the opportunity to grow or relocate to the area and with the infrastructure now underway it’s the ideal opportunity to launch the scheme.
“Winsford Gateway, as it will be branded, offers bespoke design and building opportunities for units up to 250,000 sq ft and we are able to start construction on site immediately.  We have already received strong interest in the roadside plot.”
Councillor Richard Beacham, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Growth, said: “The development of Winsford Industrial Estate remains a top priority for the council and we are continuing to invest in the site to enable the local community to benefit from its growth and expansion. This latest phase is the continuation of a really exciting four-year partnership project to develop the site, which will secure employment in the town and help to give confidence about the future at a time when Covid-19 has created some uncertainty for local people and businesses.”
Kate Howe, Development Manager at Public Sector Plc, said: “The development of Winsford Industrial Estate is a real testament to the council’s belief in the people and businesses of Winsford and Cheshire West.
“By unlocking new employment land in key strategic locations, we can help local authorities like Cheshire West & Chester to maximise the value and benefit of their land and property holdings.
“The agility and flexibility of our Build&Thrive partnership with the Council allows us to respond to the specific needs of a community and to deliver projects that truly support and promote local people and places. As a partner of local authorities, we passionately believe land and property can be used to help local communities and economies bounce back from the impact of the coronavirus.”
Winsford Industrial estate has seen rapid development in recent years and is now home to more than 100 businesses and around 4,000 workers. The Estate is located in the heart of Cheshire, and borders idyllic countryside whilst offering excellent transport links, with the M6 motorway and major A-roads linking the estate with Merseyside, Chester and North Wales.
