Two housing estates in Salford are the first to benefit from the services of a new in-house team at Salix Homes.
Homes on the Trinity Estate and in the Lower Broughton area, have seen the finishing touches put to an investment programme improving 60 properties.
The works mark the first improvement schemes to be carried out by Salix Homes’ own teams, using construction experts and specialist tradespeople from its Repairs and Maintenance Team.
The work is part of the social housing provider’s £38 million investment programme to improve 2,900 homes across the city.
In addition to work carried out by its own teams, Salix Homes is also working with five construction specialists across the North West to deliver the ambitious programme.
Around two years ago, Salix Homes launched a new repairs service to replace the use of external contractors, meaning all repair operatives are employed directly through the organisation.
The Trinity Estate project saw new kitchens and bathrooms fitted to 23 properties, while in Lower Broughton, 37 properties were improved.
The team received glowing feedback from their inaugural scheme.
Trinity Estate resident Deborah Banu lives with her husband and four of her children and is thrilled with the improvements to her home.
She said: “We are over the moon with everything, especially the new bathroom and shower – it has made such a difference.
“All the workmen were wonderful. I was pregnant at the time, and had a toddler running round, but they were so considerate and professional and you could speak to them like friends.”
Sue Sutton, executive director of operations at Salix Homes, said: “The completion of these schemes marks a real milestone in Salix Homes’ journey. Not only does it provide revamped homes for our customers, but also demonstrates the skill and expertise we have within our workforce.
“Our contractor partners do a fantastic job at improving homes across the city, but it is a really positive move for both us and our customers that we can start to deliver some of these schemes ourselves. We look forward to seeing plenty of happy customers benefit from our services in the future.”
