The win highlights the company’s proven track record and ongoing relationship with this high-profile customer.
London, February 8th, 2017 – SPIE UK has been awarded a contract for the decommissioning of existing Central Battery Units (CBUs), supply, installation and commissioning of new Emergency Lighting Central Battery Systems to Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5. The works, valued at circa £2.2m, will be completed at the end of October 2018.
The new installation works and commissioning will be carried out during non-operational hours over a 23-week programme to avoid disruption, and will provide Heathrow Terminal 5 with 23 new emergency lighting CBUs across all three T5 terminal buildings. SPIE will be responsible for both decommissioning existing CBUs and commissioning new emergency lighting CBUs.
SPIE has been successfully completing baggage upgrade works at Heathrow Airport for over eight years. This contract win was a result of SPIE UK’s high quality work and considerable experience in delivering contracts across the Heathrow Campus. In September 2017, SPIE UK was awarded a building services contract to deliver upgrades at Heathrow Airport’s, Terminal 3 Integrated Baggage Building (T3IB). The new improved facility means the baggage screening operations from Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4 can be integrated into one central space.
Nick Hopper, General Manager of Building Services at SPIE UK, comments, “We’re very pleased to be part of the continued upgrade of Heathrow Airport, and to be recognised for our ability to deliver excellence because of our knowledge and expertise in this area. The team here is looking forward to demonstrating our ongoing commitment to the needs of our customers in the important aviation space.”
Darren Pitts, the Development Project Manager from Heathrow Airport Limited, added: “When we set out to find a contractor for the Terminal 5 CBU installation, we were looking for a company with experience of delivering large electrical infrastructure schemes within Heathrow. SPIE with their previous experience during the original T5 build fit those requirements perfectly. Their knowledge of Electrical systems and in delivering works across the Heathrow campus means we are confident that they will deliver an excellent result on time.”
