One of the most prestigious Birmingham business venues has been sensitively refurbished using the latest additions to the British Gypsum patching and repair range to achieve a superior finish within a tight deadline.
As one of the most widely recognised business addresses in Birmingham, 55 Colmore Row has undergone an extensive refurbishment programme to create 160,000 square feet of prime grade-A commercial accommodation under the management of Morgan Sindall Group. Taking centre stage has been the restoration of the Grade 2 listed banqueting hall and its 20 iconic columns.
Needing to be returned to their former splendour within a four-day schedule and without using corner or edge beading, Taylor Hart Ltd used Thistle Bonding 60 undercoat plaster to fill the deep flaws in the columns’ plasterwork – some of which reached seven metres tall. With a setting time of just 60-minutes on low suction backgrounds, Thistle Bonding 60 was the ideal solution providing a rapid, consistent finish. Indeed, tradespeople can double their productivity on repair work and even complete multiple patching jobs in a single day by using the new product.
To finish the columns to a high enough standard so that they would withstand the scrutiny under powerful down lighters, Taylor Hart Ltd then used Gyproc Easi-Fill 20 filler over the surface of each column. Gyproc Easi-Fill 20 has a working time of just 20 minutes and sets rapidly making it the perfect match with Thistle Bonding 60 on this time pressured project. What’s more, Gyproc Easi-Fill 20 can be easily sanded down once dry to achieve a perfectly smooth finish.
Phil Lewis, Contracts Director at Taylor Hart Ltd, commented: “Working within such a tight timeframe and the need for the highest quality finish meant that our product choice was more important than ever. British Gypsum’s patching and repair products saved us a lot of time on site and helped us meet this challenge head on. The result speaks for itself and we will definitely be using Thistle Bonding 60 and Gyproc Easi-Fill 20 again on jobs in the future.”
