TCP (Taylor Construction Plant Ltd) demonstrated its state-of-the-art Ecolite-TH200 lighting tower to the next generation of young engineers and programmers taking part in the world’s first ever hydrogen fuel cell hack organised by Arcola Energy. The week-long event took place across the UK during the summer holidays to raise awareness among young people of the benefits of hydrogen fuel cell technology.

TCP joined other hydrogen fuel cell innovators Ballard, ITM Power, Intelligent Energy Hydrogen London and some of the world’s global technology giants including Toyota, Shell, BOC and Anglo American, and Symbio Fcell to support Arcola Energy Hydrogen Hack. As one of the sponsors of the event, the TCP Ecolite product team had the chance to demonstrate to the students its latest innovation, The Ecolite-TH200 mobile lighting tower, which is powered by BOC’s HYMERA ® fuel cell.

“This was a great opportunity to not only be a part of educating the next generation about the use of Hydrogen as a much greener and cleaner fuel, but also to show them a real-life example of a commercial Hydrogen fuel cell powered product. We highlighted the multiple applications of our mobile lighting tower which hopefully provided inspiration for the students,” says Andrew Barker Managing Director of TCP (Taylor Construction Plant Ltd).

Over 100 young inventors aged between 8 and 18 took part in the event which involved re-engineering everyday objects such as a toy car, duck, boat or robot to do something new. Using hydrogen fuel cells to supply power and Raspberry Pi or Arduino mini computers for control, the innovators made the items move faster, longer or to take their first steps as an animate object

“The Hydrogen Hack has been a huge success. It’s a really creative, innovative and fun way for young people to learn more about renewable energy, hydrogen and fuel cells. We are very grateful for the support of TCP and all our sponsors; the event would not have been such a success without it. We have exciting plans for developing the Hydrogen Hack in the future, both in the UK and internationally.” Dr Ben Todd, Managing Director, Arcola Energy.
