Work on two housing developments in Darlington has resulted in £38.2 million being invested into the local economy through the responsible procurement of local suppliers and sub-contractors.

The Homes by Esh developments, Elder Brook Park and West Park Garden Village, will deliver hundreds of new homes as part of a joint venture with Darlington Borough Council.

Using a predominantly SME-based supply chain, 90% of the total scheme procurement cost for West Park Garden Village has been re-invested locally, and the figure rises to 97% for Elder Brook Park. Specifically, £23.6 million in the Darlington and Tees Valley area, and £14.6 million in Durham.

Homes by Esh’s land manager, Nick Bradshaw-Hughes, is responsible for bringing forward new development opportunities in the region. Homes by Esh has been working with Darlington Borough Council in a joint venture for more than five years to improve the housing offer within the borough. Work initially commenced at West Park Garden Village in 2018, with Elder Brook Park commencing last year.

The developer held a Meet the Development event in Darlington’s Blackwell Grange Hotel earlier in the year in a bid to grow its local supply chain, more than 85 businesses attended.

West Park Garden Village is part of an award-winning redevelopment project which features West Park Nature Reserve, the first new park to be created in Darlington for 100 years. Phase 1 is now complete and occupied, with phase 2 and phase 4 homes now released for sale.

Located on Neasham Road, Elder Brook Park features 155 new homes ranging from two up to four-bedrooms, with 15 different house types being built to create a distinctive neighbourhood. Phase 1 is nearing completion and Phase 2 is on sale now.
