Two Nottingham City Homes construction projects have been named national winners of prestigious safety awards.
A new-build development in the Meadows area of Nottingham, which was created using BIM (Building Information Modelling) by appointed architect Arcus Consulting, was given BIM Project of the Year at the Association for Project Safety (APS) National Awards.
And the BMK refurbishment, which saw three tower blocks in Sneinton (Bentinck, Manvers and Kingston Courts) fully refurbished, has been named as Project of the Year.
The APS awards began nine years ago to recognise, reward and share outstanding good practice in the design and construction health and safety risk management sector. They are now the
pre-eminent awards of their kind, helping to establish a benchmark of good practice to make the industry a safer and healthier place for all construction workers.
The awards were handed out at the Gibson Hall, London, in October.
Richard Whittaker, Head of Development at Nottingham City Homes, said: “These were two very different projects, one a new build in the middle of an existing community, and the other the refurbishment of existing tower blocks, with around 270 tenants living in them throughout the process.
“Although the nature of the work was different, both projects had to take into consideration existing residents and dozens of construction workers being on site at any given time. Designed by Arcus Consulting, alongside our development team, we made use of BIM- generated high levels of cost certainty and savings, ensuring we came in under budget. The projects were closely monitored and designed to cause as minimum disruption as possible while keeping everyone on and around the sites safe.
